Full Description:
Discover the soul of Lisbon through the shops and traditions that survived earthquakes, dictatorships, and modern tourism.
Most visitors leave Lisbon seeing only monuments, missing the city’s authentic treasures. They often end up in "tourist herds" or generic shops selling mass-produced items. This experience is designed to change that, taking you deep into the "Shops with History" (Lojas com História)—a prestigious program by the Lisbon City Council protecting businesses of high cultural value. These are the living museums of Lisbon’s crafts and heritage.
We have designed a downhill route that respects your energy while taking you through the city’s most atmospheric districts. We will walk through Chiado, Rossio, Baixa, and end by the river. Along the way, we provide historical context so you can understand how Lisbon evolved, and we will give you detailed information about each neighborhood and local stories to help you immerse yourself in our culture.
What We Discover Together:
- Official "Shops with History": Visit businesses that have stood the test of time, from a historic candle store to a jewelry store that once supplied the royal family.
- The World’s Oldest Operating Bookstore: Visit the legendary site operating continuously for centuries.
- The Birthplace of Ginja: Stand in the spot where Lisbon’s iconic cherry liqueur was first created in 1840.
- Some of the most popular areas in the city are Bairro Alto, Chiado, Rossio, and Baixa.
